Chris Harrison, Leader of the New Forest District Council Liberal Democrat Group, has voiced serious concerns about the future of some of the most vulnerable people living in the New Forest area.
Residents living in sheltered accommodation in the New Forest district have been looked after by support staff employed by the New Forest District Council.
That is now set to change following funding cuts imposed by Conservatives.
In secret talks between New Forest District Council and Hampshire County Council, a major disagreement has occurrred in the level of funding that will be necessary to keep support services running in sheltered accommodation.
The District Council says it cannot maintain a safe service within the budget being offered by the County Council. As a result, trained and experienced staff will lose their employment with New Forest District Council.
Councillor Harrison says “It is a matter of very great regret that the two Tory run Councils cannot agree on what a safe level of service to our most vulnerable residents would cost.
They seem to be taking a significant risk, buying in a new service with less experienced staff. My Liberal Democrat colleagues and I will be closely monitoring matters to try and ensure that the quality of service will not in any way be diminished by this haggling over cost cutting”.
