The conservative controlled New Forest District Council has narrowly escaped a £50,000 fine in a further legal slip-up that brings back memories of the “Slippery Floor Saga”.
The authority has been found guilty of repeatedly breaching Data Protection Laws by publishing residents' signatures and personal details, such as telephone numbers on the council web-site.
After a lengthy investigation, the Office of the Information Commissioner has decided not to prosecute the Tory run council after receiving an assurance that the authority will do all it can to ensure maximum compliance in the future.
Former Liberal Democrat Leader, Councillor David Harrison, says “This is hugely embarrassing for the ruling Tory group.
The slippery floor fiasco cost taxpayers over £300,000. I'm breathing a sigh of relief that a fine hasn't been imposed because it is the taxpayer who always picks up the bill.
I just hope that the elections next May will bring in an administration who aren't so accident prone”.
