Towns and villages today are full of people wanting to 'grow their own' and to enjoy the exercise and fresh air that keeps you healthy and active.
Over eighty people are on the waiting list for allotments, in Lymington & Pennington, yet we have only a small number of allotments on a site in Marsh Lane, next to the local refuse tip.
Many of those residents have been waiting for years. Councillor Ted Jearrad, himself a keen gardener, and Marsh Lane allotment holder has long campaigned on behalf of local people to boost provision.
Now we are planning a new site on part of a meadow on the western edge of Pennington, which will provide an extra 40 plots in a range of sizes, and the Council will shortly be contacting everyone on the waiting list to check they are still interested.
The money to prepare the site comes from a tax on builders of new houses. This tax provides money for facilities to benefit local residents.
It's held on our behalf by New Forest District Council, and your local team will fight to ensure that money, raised in Lymington and Pennington is spent in Lymington and Pennington.
Even better our local Transition Group (a movement of people dedicated to mitigating the impact of global climate change) are keen to get involved, and provide labour and machinery when needed. That will keep the costs down.
Yet another example of your local Lib Dem team ensuring most efficient use of your money.
If you are interested in holding an allotment, please contact Ted Jearrad on 01590 679443, email tedjearrad@talktalk.net, or use the comment form below.
We'll use this website to keep you informed as we make progress with the new allotments.
