Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for New Forest East, Terry Scriven, has added his weight to calls for more control over HGV movements through Totton & Marchwood.
Terry Scriven visited the scene of a recent fatal accident in Bury Road, Marchwood. Gary Lewis, a 22 year-old fitness instructor was killed after being struck by a lorry, whilst trying to cross the road, pushing his bike.
Local County Councillor David Harrison has already requested Traffic Commissioners to hold a public enquiry into the volume of HGV’s permitted to use Marchwood Industrial Estate.
The campaigning councillor has also resisted applications for quarry work and waste disposal that would lead to increased HGV movements in and out of the village.
Terry Scriven says “It is clear to me that this area is already taking an unfair burden of HGV traffic. The local councils seem powerless to do anything about it.
We all need to get behind efforts that will improve matters, especially a safe pedestrian and cycle route between Totton & Marchwood”.
