The New Forest Liberal Democrats were successful in getting three out of four County Council candidates elected in Totton & the Waterside this week.
In a tight contest, Gordon Richardson lost out to a conservative candidate in South Waterside.
However, Brian Dash won by a large majority in Hythe & Dibden. David Harrison, (Marchwood & Totton South) and Alan Weeks, (Totton North), both stormed home despite very strong conservative challenges.
Good Lib Dem campaigns were fought in Lymington, Fordingbridge, Lyndhurst and Ringwood.
However, the conservatives successfully defended all seats.
The conservatives have retained their hold on Hampshire County Council, with a slightly increased majority.
The Liberal Democrats are now the only opposition group with 25 members.
It was an election disaster for the Labour party who started with four seats but now have only one councillor on the authority.
Councillor Brian Dash said “It was a difficult campaign for everyone because of the MP’s expenses scandal.
However, we are completely outside the Westminster bubble and are involved in the business of improving our communities, not feathering our own nests”.
