Lord John Lee, President of the Liberal Democrats Friends of the Armed Forces (LDFAF) recently hosted their first official committee meeting in the House of Lords.
Terry Scriven a former Colonel in the Royal Military Police and Chair of the LDFAF said, ”This is a great occasion and I am grateful for all the support that Lord Lee has given during the past months.
We already have over 100 Liberal Democrat members, this is growing weekly, and we will be recruiting at the Harrogate Spring Conference.
We hope to hold a fringe event at the Autumn Conference in Bournemouth and be in a position to achieve full Party recognition by 2010.”
The LDFAF is a policy supporting not policy forming group. It deals with issues that directly relate to the Armed Forces and monitors the conditions of service of those currently serving together with ex service personnel and their families.
If you would like to join LDFAF please contact the Membership Secretary, Jan Westbury, on janwestbury@btinternet.com or phone 01425 652546.
There is currently no membership fee as currently the organisation relies on donations from its members and supporters. |
I think it is a national discrace that an service medal has never been issued. The Australians have already done this and US are currently reviewing the issue.

Reply:- Thank you for your support. As a result of a Freedom of Information Request I made to the MOD I now have information that shows over 600 Service personnel died whilst on duty in NW Europe during the period 1961 to 1989 (the period of the Berlin Wall) and over 1,400 Service people died off duty during that period in NW Europe.
As Chairman of the Liberal Democrats Friends of the Armed Forces I am, along with our group, actively pursuing the award of a Cold War medal.
Colonel Terry Scriven
Chairman LDFAF
