Liberal Democrat Prospective MP, Terry Scriven, has been out and about asking shoppers in Totton what they think about the town centre.
The market is no longer operating as, one by one, traders pulled out due to a lack of business.
However, on the plus side, the store formerly occupied by Woolworths has been re-launched as a bargain 99p Store.
In a further move, Asda have announced plans to expand, although it is far from certain whether the proposals to build a single storey car park will be approved by planners.
Terry says “It’s been interesting listening to what local people have to say. Some are very concerned that Asda is taking too much business, whilst others are wholly supportive.
I very much hope that a balance can be found so that Totton benefits from a range of shops and a thriving market.
Keeping some free car parking will be a critical factor”.
