“Pedestrians in Lyndhurst are at great risk unless urgent steps are taken to improve matters”.
So says, Col. Terry Scriven, Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for New Forest East.
Terry Scriven was invited to consider the threat of heavy traffic by local resident, Professor Jim Parry.
He was quite shocked by what he found in Shrubbs Hill Road, one of the busiest routes through the village.
Pedestrians are expected to cross two lanes of traffic without any safe crossing facilities. A single pavement right next to the very busy road was found to be overgrown with vegetation, including brambles.
Terry Scriven says “I looked at the road on the last day of November. There was a very heavy flow of traffic along Shrubs Hill Road, making it very difficult to cross.
The situation must be far worse in the summer months. I do not know how a parent with a toddler can be expected to walk safely along the narrow pavement with all the brambles sticking out.”
Terry has reported his findings to the local Area Highways Office and requested action. In the meantime, he would be very pleased to hear from any Lyndhurst resident on the subject of pedestrian safety.
He adds “I’m not yet in a position to facilitate a local solution being found to the traffic problem in the village but once elected it will be one of my priorities.
However, I can press for various safety measures and will be pleased to hear from anyone if they think I can help”.
