| • Parliamentary Spokesman Terry Scriven talking to County Councillor Brian Dash about the impact a container port in Dibden Bay would have on the residents of the New Forest. |
New Forest East Liberal Democrat Prospective MP Terry Scriven and local County Councillor Brian Dash have written to the Chief Executive of the New Forest National Park Authority requesting the inclusion of the land at Dibden Bay into the National Park.
Terry says, “It should never have been excluded in the first place.
It includes an area of special scientific interest and the internationally designated RAMSAR (from the international convention on the protection of special wetlands) foreshore.
It has always been a prime candidate for inclusion.”
Brian Dash says, “It is no surprise that Associated British Ports are at it again but it is surprising that they are at it so early.
I suspect that it might be because of the “Infrastructure Planning Commission” which the Government has created through legislation which can determine applications which are considered to address ‘national need’.
This would include ports and airports and would bypass the inquiry process. Nevertheless Local Government, including the National Park must still be consulted.
It would be ridiculous to sandwich a huge port between a National Park (which didn’t exist at the last Inquiry) and an internationally designated foreshore.
We must be prepared and Liberal Democrats will oppose this at every level all the way up to Parliament.
