The Liberal Democrats on New Forest District Council have elected a new leader. Totton Councillor, David Harrison, was unanimously elected at the annual meeting of the group this week.

He takes over from Hythe Councillor, Maureen Robinson who was voted into the role of deputy leader.

There are 14 Liberal Democrat Councillors on New Forest District Council, forming the only opposition to the conservative administration.

Councillor Harrison said “I’m really pleased to be given the chance to lead the opposition on the District Council.

Last year, Labour failed once again to get a single Councillor elected. It falls on the Liberal Democrats to hold the conservatives to account.

We will continue to press the administration to reduce taxes, improve services, tackle the lack of affordable housing, combat the causes and consequences of climate change and play a key role in helping people lead healthy lives in secure communities”.
