| Wheelie bin |
Wheelie Bins could be introduced into New Forest towns, like Totton – despite the wishes of local people.
At a meeting this week, Conservatives on New Forest District Council were challenged to come clean on the issue of wheelie bins by Lib Dem Leader, David Harrison.
Previously, Conservatives have promised that the plastic sack method of collecting household waste would be kept and only changed if a referendum supported it.
However, in answering a question put by Councillor Harrison, the Conservative Leader told council members that he no longer thought local people wanted a referendum and admitted that the matter is now being looked at by a new “Senate”, created by Conservative controlled Hampshire County Council.
In reply, Lib Dem Leader Leader, David Harrison, said “Every properly elected Councillor in this chamber should be concerned that the decision might be taken out of our hands. Whether or not you agree that wheelie bins are the best means of collecting household waste, we are the people that should decide."
