New Forest Liberal Democrats are celebrating a by-election success in Totton.
Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats have been campaigning in recent weeks, all hoping that they can win the vacant seat on Totton & Eling Town Council.
The Totton South ward vacancy arose following the resignation of Lib Dem Councillor, Colin Rant, forced to step down for health reasons.
The Liberal Democrat victor was Bill Catt, a former Town and District Councillor.
Bill says “I’m thrilled to be elected back onto the Town Council.
With my party now holding 10 seats and the Conservatives holding 10, it’s essential we all work together for the good of the community”.
It was once again a dismal result for Labour who trailed well behind in third place and still have no Councillors in the New Forest.
Councillor Alan Weeks organised the successful campaign.
He says “This is at least six by-elections wins in a row for the Liberal Democrats in Totton. It’s a great result. I think the voters realised that the Conservatives were trying to claim credit for Liberal Democrat projects in the Town.”
The final result was;
| Bill Catt |
Liberal Democrat |
660 votes (Elected) |
| Gavin Kimber |
Conservative |
492 votes |
| Cliff Thomas |
Labour |
85 votes |
| The turn-out was 26.37% |

Congratulations to Bill, well done to all the campaigners in Totton.

Congrats to you all, so glad Bill is back. Just need to get the rest out now and get back our Town.
