A petition, thought to contain as many as 1,000 signatures, has been presented to Marchwood Parish Council.
The petition calls for a pavement in Hythe Road, to run from the village to the Pilgrim Public House and improvements to speed limit signage.
The call for action has been welcomed by Liberal Democrat County Councillor, David Harrison, (Member for Marchwood). He is already campaigning for safety improvements, including the provision of special cycle routes, action on speeding traffic and further restrictions on HGV traffic travelling through the village.
Councillor Harrison says “You cannot ignore the facts. There have been some very serious accidents. A very large number of local people have called for action. We still have problems in Hythe road with speeding traffic and too many HGV’s travelling along it. The County Council should address these issues quickly. In particular, I want to see a safe route created for pedestrians and cyclists”.
A special Workshop is being planned to take place in Marchwood, probably in October. This will give an opportunity for local people to express opinions and come up with ideas for improving road safety in the village.
