Terry Scriven, Prospective Member of Parliament for New Forest East, has launched a special “Save The 101” campaign.
The Liberal Democrat Campaigner wants to convince the government that the special 101 number that local residents have been encouraged to use is a worthwhile scheme.
Since the special number has been introduced, thousands of people have called into a special call centre to report a range of non-emergency issues from low level anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles. The calls then prompt action from a range of agencies including local authorities and the police.
The government have so far refused to confirm that the trials of the new 101 number have been considered a success and that the necessary funding will be found to expand and secure the service.
Terry says “Now that we have a very much better police presence on the streets, it would be criminal to axe this scheme. It provides the police and other agencies with a flow of information, helping to improve the quality of life for New Forest residents. I urge everyone to sign my on-line petition below.
Terry plans to visit the Home Office in order to present a list of arguments in favour of keeping the service. Any additional responses from the on-line petition will also be passed onto The Home Office requesting that the future of this scheme is secured.” |
