Angry Waterside Councillors used Council procedures to prevent New Forest District Council's Conservative Planning and Transportation Chief Cllr.Treleven informing the County Council that the District Council offered “cautious encouragement" for sand and gravel extraction on part of the Forest Lodge Farm site near the Hardley roundabout.
Cllr. Trelevan agreed to change the wording after his decision was debated by a Review Panel.
Dibden Purlieu Councillor Brenda Smith said, “This is amazing and sickening. The first thing local councillors knew of this “cautious support” was after Cllr. Trelevan had made the decision, on his own, to respond on behalf of the whole District Council!”
Fellow ward member Malcolm Wade added,” During the recent election both Liberal Democrat and Conservatives came out against any proposal for extraction on the site. We really expected support from the Tories and we feel betrayed.”
Both Lib Dem County Councillors Lee Dunsdon and Brian Dash have already written to the County Council objecting to any sand and gravel extraction on the site.
Lee Dunsdon said,” We both feel really let down by the District Council threatening to undermine our fight against this threat.” |
