Lib Dem campaigners from the New Forest were to be seen in large numbers this weekend visiting Ealing and Southall, the venue for a Parliamentary by-election to take place next Thursday.
Former Parliamentary candidates, Brian Dash and David Harrison spent time on the streets and in the campaign headquarters, bundling literature alongside Romsey based, 92 year-old Henry Maddocks, who says that he plans to slow down a bit when he reaches his 100th birthday!
Cllr. Maureen McLean, Rachel Smith and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable MP, were all out doing their best to boost a strong campaign aimed at getting another Lib Dem MP elected to Westminster.
Brian Dash, Chairman of the local party said “The New Forest Liberal Democrat team has gained a good reputation for helping other areas. This week alone, we have helped in elections to take place soon in Aldershot, Gosport and now the parliamentary campaign in Ealing and Southall”.
The result of the by-election is difficult to predict. Evidence from the busy streets suggests that all three main parties are putting in a big effort to attract votes.
There was also a vocally strong campaign from The Respect Party. The three big issues for campaigners of all parties seem to be crime, the NHS and the Iraq war.
