County Councillors, David Harrison, Member for Marchwood and Totton South, and Brian Dash, Member for Hythe and Dibden Purlieu, met up with Terry Scriven, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for New Forest East, to look at problems of heavy traffic, travelling through Marchwood village.
The campaigning County Councillors are pressing for further restrictions on lorry traffic. In particular, they want to ban almost all lorry traffic from travelling through the village and use the nearby A326 bypass.
They are due to meet with Officers from the Highways Department on the 21st August to discuss the possibility of further restrictions.
Whilst looking at the problems in Hythe Road, the three campaigners were approached by several local people, including Mum’s with push-chairs, relaying stories of gridlock and the dangers involved in lorry traffic travelling through the village whilst the pavements were busy with schoolchildren and parents.
Terry Scriven says “There is an important road safety issue at stake here. Something must be done quickly.
Only recently, I have also been looking at the problem of congestion on the A326. There is a link between the two issues. If the County Council invested in making the A326 a dual carriageway there would be less cause for traffic to travel through places like Marchwood”. |
