In contrast to the general frustration of local residents at the number of upmarket houses and flats being constructed and the change in their local environment, Cllr Paul Hickman, one of the New Forest District Councillors for Pennington, and local residents, have succeeded in blocking the development of nine retirement properties in Pennington.
Three substantial existing houses were to be demolished in North Greenlands (between Fox Pond and the Pennington Cross roundabout) in order to make way for the new development.
The project was rejected initially by District Council planners.
After intensive lobbying by local residents and their councillor, a modified project was rejected at the second hearing by members of the planning committee, against the advice of officers.
The proposal was then the subject of an appeal by the developers, Coltens.
The appeal was dismissed by the Inspector on the grounds of excessive impact on a neighbouring bungalow, which would have been totally overwhelmed by the proposed buildings. |
