Southampton's laser gateway branded 'unneighbourly'

Supporting objections from environmentalists to Southampton's proposed 'laser gateway' Hythe councillor Maureen Robinson today branded the proposed beams as unneighbourly.

She reminded members of New Forest DC's Economy and Planning review panel that economic prosperity in Southampton is important to us all. Indeed, over the years residents of Hythe have stoically endured increasing light pollution from the docks and shopping developments in the city as well as noise nuisance from fireworks displays, because they know that this helps to promote the city's economy.

However, she claimed that the proposed beams of light were unwelcome. She asked that the lasers be reconsidered by Southampton City Council and that the two communities could work together in future to come up with proposals could be acceptable to all.
