Accident hotspots in Holbury were highlighted at a recent Traffic Management Meeting. There are concerns for children that cross the roads in this area to go to school.
A 'Parish Partnership Agreement' between the County Council and the Parish Council would be the only way to fund traffic calming measures in Foxcroft Drive.
A pinch point would cost about £1,000; a build out £2,000. 2 pinch points plus a crossing point would probably be considered.
The Parish Council are considering whether to enter into the agreement with the County Council; if the Parish can meet its part of the cost, traffic calming could be included in the 2007/8 programme.
• Installation of verge marker posts highlighting the southernmost bend to southbound drivers.
• Improving visibility north from Studley Avenue junction with Foxcroft Drive/Holbury Drove by cutting back thicket/bramble
• Holbury Drove/Lime Kiln Lane Junction White line hatching to discourage high speeds for traffic exiting left from Lime Kiln Lane into Holbury Drove.
• Lorry Movements in Holbury SMS Skips have voluntarily agreed not to drive through residential areas in Holbury. Prior to this there were up to 15 large skip lorries per day going through representing a 3 fold increase within recent years.
• An advisory lorry direction sign placed at the SMS Skips exit into Lime Kiln Lane, encouraging all lorries to turn left towards the Hardley Industrial Estate, in early 2007.
• An 18 month Experimental Lorry Restriction Traffic Order could be imposed by 2007/8. The restriction would cover a short section of Lime Kiln Lane just to the south of the SMS Skips site. If approved, lorries above 7.5 tonnes would not be able to travel along this stretch.
