| Traffic chaos in Marchwood |
Following a meeting involving Highway Chiefs today (Monday 20th August), it appears that further restrictions on lorry traffic travelling through Marchwood village are going to be in place by next year.
Local Town, District and County Councillors met with Officers to discuss a further extension to the restrictions that were put in place two years ago. County Councillor Brian Dash, raised the problems of heavy lorries travelling along the southern end of Hythe Road.
David Harrison, County Councillor for Marchwood, argued that doing nothing was not an acceptable option in that the local schools, the Parish Council and almost every resident in the village are united in the belief that more restrictions on lorry traffic travelling through the village are necessary.
The group identified three possible options that will all further restrict lorry traffic travelling through the village. The Parish Council will now be consulted on the options before a formal application is made.
Commenting after the meeting, Cllr. Harrison said, “Action is long overdue on this important issue. There are problems associated with each of the three possible options. However, we cannot accept a situation whereby HGV traffic is permitted to travel through the village as now, especially during school opening and closing times. I feel that the County Council are obligated to move swiftly and deal with this important safety initiative”. |
