There is still a significant risk that parts of Marchwood will be flooded whilst the District Council dither over completing the last part of sea defences.
County Councillor for Marchwood, David Harrison, visited the waterfront at Marchwood with Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, Terry Scriven to show him the yawning gap in the sea defences which needs to be completed if the risk of flooding is to be reduced.
In recent years, a very high tide has allowed sea water to flood the premises of Marchwood Yacht Club. The Members are now constantly on “sandbag alert”, a temporary measure which is a poor substitute for a completed sea wall.
Terry Scriven says “I was amazed to find that the sea wall suddenly comes to a halt in the way that it does. The necessary investment in completing the defences now will obviously pay dividends when preventing a major flooding incident”.
County Councillor, David Harrison, says “A lot of residents on the Admiralty Quay Estate have expressed their concern that the temporary arrangements to keep out the sea from flooding the area are not adequate. I know also, that the local Yacht Club will be delighted to see the work undertaken quickly”.
