Parliamentary Campaigner for the New Forest Liberal Democrats, Terry Scriven, is praying that the recent outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease will be contained and kept well away from the New Forest and ftom his own sheep.

He says  “At the time of the last outbreak, I remember the shock of how far into the community the threat of Foot And Mouth extended. All recreational activity came to a grinding halt.

Only then did it really become apparent how important the Forest is to everyone.

People were asking, “where can I go jogging? Where can I walk my dog?”

A great many people were concerned about how they could exercise their horses. The New Forest emptied of people. It was a strange experience for all concerned.

Sadly, already some events in the Forest have already been affected with the cancellation of the Ellingham Show which was due to take place this Saturday the 11th August.
