The Conservatives on the New Forest District Council came under heavy fire from Liberal Democrats last night, (Monday 30 July 2007) for increasing the cost of car-parking clocks once again.

At a full meeting of the Council, Liberal Democrat Councillor, Malcolm Wade, proposed that there be no further increase in the charge. He said “ There is no justification for increasing the charges once again. The motorist is already being hit hard enough and the latest increases have nothing to do with traffic management”.

The proposal was supported by Councillor David Harrison, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group. He said “Now that the elections are out of the way, the Conservatives are forcing through more car parking increases. Put together with inflation busting council tax increases and cuts to bus service subsidies it represents a triple whammy”.

The Conservatives ignored the pleas and voted through the increases. The cost of short stay clocks will now be £10 and long stay clocks will be £80.
