Marchwood awaits Waste Site Improvements
Last updated  Tuesday, 3rd October 2006

"The County Council should not deny local people the opportunity to dispose of their household waste safely." This is the message from local Lib Dem County Councillor, David Harrison, in his efforts to get the Household Waste Amenity Site upgraded.

The operators of the site have submitted plans to the County Council who are busy studying the designs. They include improved facilities for recycling and also a much safer system of disposing of waste so that people won't have to climb up and down metal steps, carrying waste materials.

Councillor Harrison says "I'm very keen that the County Council accept the need for a split level system so that car drivers can enter the site and unload waste material directly into low level skips without the need to negotiate up and down steps whilst carrying all manner of waste materials.

The current system is inherently dangerous and many people have sustained injuries on other similar sites. The planned upgrade of the site gives the County Council to put this matter right".

The campaigning Lib Dem Councillor has written to Council Officers seeking assurances that the Conservative controlled authority will make the necessary investment to prevent delays in re-vamping the site and to improve safety.
