New Forest Liberal Democrats have launched a massive campaign, calling for fair funding for local health services.
Reflecting public anger at the cash crisis in local NHS services, four Liberal Democrat County Councillors have joined forces to campaign for a better deal that will see an end to rising debts in local trusts, causing job losses, cuts in hospital services and closure of maternity services.
Hythe & Dibden Councillor, Brian Dash says "Every person in Hampshire gets £100 less than the national average in NHS funding. This can't be fair".
Totton North Councillor, Alan, Weeks says "It's not just Tony Blair's government that is letting us down. Conservative councillors who run Hampshire County Council are cutting services after they promised not to".
The four campaigners are sending out thousands of letters to local people asking them to sign a petition calling on Tony Blair to end the cash crisis. In addition, the Conservatives on the Hampshire County Council are being asked to stick to election promises to stop the cuts in vital care for older and vulnerable people.
Fawley Councillor, Lee Dunsdon says "It is a huge effort to deliver all the letters in my area but well worth it if it makes a difference".
Totton & Marchwood Councillor, David Harrison adds "Community hospitals are under threat of closure. It is vital that local health services do not suffer because of short term budget pressures".
