Green New Forest
Last updated  Tuesday, 31th October 2006
New Forest Liberal Democrats have called on the New Forest District Council to undertake a Green Audit, an examination of the environmental impact of the Authority's activities.

Totton Councillor, Steve Shepherd, put forward the motion to full council, by co-incidence, on the same day as publication of the Stern Report, a widely publicised and authoritative report on how climate change is expected to impact on the economy.

Cllr. Shepherd says "It's really important that we now focus attention on things like fuel efficiency, cutting out wastage, minimising pollution and saving resources - for the sake of future generations".

In response, the Conservative Leader of the Council welcomed the motion and claimed that he had an Officer already working on such a scheme. Cllr Shepherd adds "I don't mind who wants to claim credit for saving the planet, as long as the necessary actions are being taken now".
