Totton has a "Bridge of Sighs", the reaction of everyone who walks around the popular Salmon Leap Walk in Totton, only to see the wooden fencing panels still completely blocking views of the River Test.
The fencing was erected without planning permission and has met with widespread condemnation by hundreds of local people who had enjoyed one of the best scenic views to be seen for miles.
Although retrospective planning permission was applied for, permission was refused and even on Appeal they lost, the landowners were instructed to remove the ugly fencing.
The latest twist to the saga is that a new application has been submitted, involving partial removal of the panels and erection of some transparent, plastic panels.
The owners seem to think that they can ignore the court order to dismantle the original fencing whilst the further application is considered.
Totton & Eling Town Council have been pressing District Council Officers to enforce the court judgement requiring the fencing to be completely removed.
Council Chairman, Alan Weeks and Vice Chairman, David Harrison visited the site last week and are very annoyed that the panels remain in place. Cllr. Weeks says "Local people are dismayed that this issue has taken so long to resolve.
The fencing has got to be dismantled. The sooner, the better". |
