Salmon Leap fences come crashing down
Last updated  Sunday 11th June 2006
The fencing panels which have preventing some of the most scenic views of the River Test at "The Salmon Leap", Totton have now been removed.

After a two year battle, involving planning regulations and legal action, local people can now once again enjoy unrestricted views both sides of the bridge, located next to the river keepers cottage.

A delighted Chairman of Totton & Eling Town Council, Councillor David Harrison, says "The fences were erected by the River Keeper, without planning permission, without proper consideration on the impact it would have for people who enjoyed the views from the bridge and - as it transpired - without the approval of the Trustees who own the property".

Councillor Len Harris, Chairman of Amenities on Totton & Eling Town Council, says "This is a real victory for people power.

The Town Council invests wisely in providing some great recreational facilities in the area. However, we are equally keen not to lose the natural beauty of our walking areas. You simply cannot put a price on things like this".
