This result means that the Liberal Democrats now have 9 out of 10 District Council seats in Totton. It also reduces the Conservative majority on New Forest District Council to just two seats.
The by-election was very keenly fought by both Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. The local Tory MP lives near to the ward. The Tory candidate works as his personal assistant. The result will be a crushing blow to them as well as the local Labour Party who, once again, performed dismally.
After the result of the count was announced a very pleased Len Harris said "I would like to thank the tremendous team of Liberal Democrats that made this result possible. Once again, the people of Totton have delivered a verdict that says a lot about the way the current Tory administration at the District Council treats Totton. The town deserves better and I will work hard to make sure we get a fairer deal".
