| Liberal Democrats at Totton, getting tough on land stealing |

A Liberal Democrat Town Council has adopted a less than liberal approach when it comes to people stealing Council land.
The members of Totton & Eling Town Council are instructing Officers to be tough on residents who have enclosing town council owned land within their boundary fences.
At a meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee, this week, members were asked whether they considered the enclosure of public land to be a serious matter and whether the return of such land would be pursued vigorously through all legal channels.
Council Chairman, David Harrison, says "Yes. We have a public obligation to stop people illegally enclosing public land. Unfortunately, the District Council has adopted a very weak approach and given the impression that people can extend their gardens by readily taking chunks of District owned land. The District has failed to act, even when I have shown them what has happened. The Town Council should not take the same irresponsible approach."
The Town Council is currently contesting ownership issues on two areas of land. Both cases are likely to go to arbitration or Court.
