"It is politics that delivers what we need" - this was the message put across by local Lib Dem Councillor, David Harrison, whilst talking to students at Totton College with Labour Minister, Bill Rammell MP and College Principal, Mark Bramwell.
The Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further & Higher Education, was welcomed to Totton this week by Cllr. Harrison, Chairman of the Town Council. He was invited by Totton College to officiate at the formal opening of the superb new Hangar Farm Arts Centre.
Mark Bramwell spoke of the partnership between the college and various local authorities, especially Totton & Eling Town Council that had brought the project into reality. The Minister paid tribute to all who had shown the vision, commitment and the patience to complete the task adding that he was very impressed with the standard of the new facility.
During the event, students from the college were given the chance to talk to the Minister. Inevitably, some of the discussion dwelt on the more negative side of politics, including a mischievous suggestion from one student that the Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott be invited to open Totton's first croquet lawn.
Although of very different political persuasion, the Lib Dem Councillor and Labour Minister were of the same view that politics is and will always be a very important part of life. Councillor Harrison said "It was politics that delivered the new building we stand in today!"
