BAT Bosses agree to delay sell-off
Last updated  Saturday 8th July 2006
Local people will be pleased at the news that BAT bosses have agreed to keep the Southern Gardens Sports & Social facilities open, at least until the year end. Originally, the plan was to close the ground early whilst they tried to sell it off for development.

Lib Dem Councillors Alan Weeks and David Harrison went to see BAT bosses at the Millbrook HQ. They made it clear that no major housing development would be allowed and that local people want the site to remain as recreational land.

Alan Weeks says "BAT bosses now see that the site has limited value in terms of development but high value in terms of community use. This stay of execution gives more time for disposal of the land in a way that better reflects this".
