| Liberal Democrat Councillors Martina Humber and Paul Hickman have hit the campaigning heights in their home town of Pennington in the New Forest.
The two District Council members have been busy putting out "Focus" leaflets, with the help of teams of volunteer deliverers. They have since been bombarded with responses from residents who have been inspired to respond to the major theme in the latest edition, the problems of inappropriate development and lack of affordable housing in the area.
Cllr. Paul Hickman says "It is clear that the government have failed to grasp the difficulties faced by areas like Pennington with developers wanting to build more homes for the elderly and retired, squeezed into the smallest of plots. At the same time, there is a massive shortage of housing for young people."
Council Colleague, Martina Humber says "Pennington is a nice area but it will be ruined if developers are allowed to build in an unrestricted way. The District Council has limited powers to control unwanted development but we do need more schemes aimed at providing more affordable housing, especially for young people and key workers, like nurses and teachers". |
