| David Harrison thinks car parking charges will sink the Tories |

The Conservatives on the New Forest District Council are proposing not to increase car parking charges for the forthcoming year. By a startling coincidence, next year is election year. In a paper that is due to go to Cabinet next week, unusually, the ruling Conservative group are planning no increase in the charges for the next twelve months. The cost of purchasing an annual parking clock will remain at £80.
Cllr. Brian Dash, Parliamentary Spokesman for the New Forest Liberal Democrats says "The Conservatives must think people are stupid. Originally, they pledged to scrap car parking charges. Once they got elected, they introduced them and have rapidly increased them since. Presumably, they believe that people have such short-term memories that they will have forgotten what went on before".
Fellow Lib Dem Councillor, David Harrison will be managing the party's District Council election Campaign next year. He says "The recent by-election result in West- Totton suggests that the Conservatives are likely to be heavily punished by the voters in May. Having previously opposed car parking charges, they are being optimistic in expecting voters to forget about the past and to happily pay up to £80 for a parking clock.
