| The Conservative controlled County Council are planning to close Stocklands, in Calmore Drive, Totton. The much appreciated nursing home, which is also home to a wheels on meals facility and provides vital day-care facilities for local elderly people will be closed, as early as January 2007, if the Tories get their way.
The news has been greeted with a mixture of shock and anger as the Tories seek to slash funding for social services. Lib Dem County Councillor for Totton North, Alan Weeks, says "I'm dismayed by these plans. The closure will hit the most vulnerable people in our community with serious consequences for many other people, especially the relatives. We must fight to stop the Conservatives closing Stocklands". |
