A call to 101 means safer streets
Last updated  Thrusday 10th August 2006
Councillor Alan Weeks, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on New Forest District Council has welcomed better access to non-emergency services via a new 101 telephone number.

Totton residents can now pass information to the Safer Streets team at Totton police station on anti-social behaviour and community safety issues, simply by dialling 101.

The service was set up to help take the pressure off the 999 service. If successful, it will improve coordination between local authorities and the police.

Councillor Weeks says "It is early days but I have had good reports of action that has followed from a quick call to the 101 number. I would be interested in hearing the experience of anyone else that has cause to do so in the coming weeks and months".
