U.S. Army on the move
Last updated  Monday, 24th April 2006

In a surprise move, the United States Army have announced that they are to pull out of their base in Hythe. The mightiest military machine in the world has had a presence in the town for many years. U.S. Army Officers had played an important role in the community and often attended local charity events and social functions.

Speculation as to the future of the land that the U.S. Army occupied is already apparent. However, it is understood that no decision has yet been made about disposal of the land and what it might, in future, be used for.

Local Lib Dem Councillor, Maureen Robinson, says "The news comes as something of a surprise to local people. The U.S. Army have been good neighbours and were generally well respected, especially because they took a keen interest in local community events".

Fellow Lib Dem Councillor, Brian Dash agrees. He says "A lot of people will be sorry to hear that they are moving on".
