Maureen McLean

Maureen McLean was first elected to Hythe & Dibden Parish Council in 1987 and to New Forest District Council in 1991.

She is a past Chairman of the Parish Council and Chair of Amenities. As a District Councillor Maureen takes a particular interest in Housing and Social Exclusion as well as Crime & Disorder. She has also served on Planning and Environment Committees.

In addition to her hard work on two Councils Maureen is a Trustee of the Dibden Allotments Charity and served as its chairman for four years. She was instrumental in the formation of the Handy Trust which provides youth work and family support along the Waterside.

Maureen’s other community activities include a period as a school governor on Langdown Junior School and she was a founder member of Waterside Arts Festival group.

Maureen has represented Hythe people for almost 20 years. There have been many changes for the better over that time and Maureen has played a leading part in achieving many improvements to the village centre.

She has also played an important part in campaigns including successful opposition to the container port proposals at Dibden Bay and more recently, working to get marine industry jobs and training opportunities back into the former American Base in Shore Road.

A former long serving Council Chair of Housing, Maureen is still active in the provision of housing as a board member of a local housing association.

She also chairs a local charity that provides help and advice to people with drug and alcohol problems. In addition Maureen chairs a Hampshire Health Service Trust.
