Stuart Ardern
Stuart Ardern

Stuart has been living in Ashurst for 22 years (with a two year break in the middle, spent working in Silicon Valley, California)
He has a Degree from Imperial College, London, and a business career in

• Quality Assurance
• Organisation and efficiency
• Information Technology
• Teaching Problem Solving and Decision Making
• Now self-employed as a playwright and publisher

Stuart is a long-standing member of Colbury and Ashurst Theatrical Society (CATS) and has written many of their pantomimes and other shows.

Two years ago, he turned this hobby into a full-time business, and now works from home as a writer and publisher.

Stuart says: “I have been interested in politics for a long time, but always found a conflict between working for an international company and participating in local activities. Having made the career switch, I travel a lot less (good for me and good for the environment!) and I’m now able to focus more on local issues.”

Stuart has been married for 27 years and has two children (both at university). His wife, Sue, is a member of Ashurst & Colbury Parish Council.

Since leaving college he has always worked on the land, in farming, gardening or nature conservation. He now runs his own organic gardening business, maintaining gardens in and around the New Forest.

He is probably best known for his environmental campaigning, as the founder of the New Forest group of Friends of the Earth, in 1990, he worked closely with the former Lib Dem run district council to set up a household recycling collection and helped pave the way for an Environmental Charter.

In addition to his membership of Friends of the Earth, Tony is a great supporter of the National Park. He is also a member of the New Forest Association and a Friend of the New Forest Trust.
